The “Together We Thrive” series brings today an important partnership for Amazonia Impact Ventures (AIV).
We are proud to spotlight the story of Sanchirio Palomar Cooperative, a young enterprise of organic and fairtrade coffee producers from Pichanaki, a city in the region of Junín, in central Peru.
In 2024, AIV provided Sanchirio Palomar with an impact-linked loan of USD 250 thousand for their working capital needs. Our loan is supporting the cooperative to export coffee for the first time to the United States and Europe.
To qualify for the loan, Sanchirio had to demonstrate alignment with AIV’s goals and a shared concern for the restoration of the Amazon rainforest. Sanchirio Palomar proved to be the right partner for us when:
Showed good transparency along the supply chain;
Worked alongside the farmers in reforestation;
Managed sustainably organic and inorganic waste;
Supported women with training and opportunities.
Founded in 2020 by 25 producers, Sanchirio had a collective aim of improving the quality of coffee and their agricultural processes with organic certification, fair trade, and other sustainable seals.
Sourcing their coffee from 420 local producers nowadays, and covering over 1.900 certified coffee hectares, they count on the contribution of over 100 female members to the exportable supply of green coffee.
These women come from diverse indigenous cultures in Peru, including Ashaninkas and Nomatsigengas. They are mothers of large families and rely on coffee cultivation to provide for their children.
Gender equality and empowerment of all women is the fifth sustainable goal of the United Nations (UN) for human rights. Globally, around 2.4 billion women of working age are not afforded equal economic opportunities.
Sanchirio Palomar is renowned for producing two exceptional coffee beans that offer a delightful sensory journey. One boasts a vibrant profile with hints of citrus fruits and nuts, delivering balanced acidity and medium body, ending with a taste of chocolate and caramelised sugar. The other beans have mandarin citrus highlights, accompanied by floral and honey nuances, paired with juicy acidity and a silky body.
The impact-linked loans to organisations such as Sanchirio Palomar help improve local economic opportunities in rural communities, as well as sustainable land use and avoid deforestation. Our partnership alone has helped to preserve 1900 hectares of forest, underscoring the AIV’s commitments to sustainable development in the Amazon.
